267th have had a challenging year; at last year’s gala, it literally rained on our parade! However, what stood out for me was that, in true British spirit, up went the umbrellas and a great time was had! 

This was followed by one of the hottest Beaver camps and two of the wettest Cub and Scout camps. Yet our resourceful leaders and resilient young members still had a great time.

As if this wasn’t enough to deter us, we then had the wettest bonfire and firework display for many years. We assumed no one would turn up in the pouring rain, but the fabulous residents of Dore started to arrive, and they just kept on coming until the muddy field was full!  I have no idea how our pyrotechnicians managed to light a soaking wet fire and set off a wonderful firework display in torrential rain…

The highlight of Spring term was our camp at Walesby Forest; Beavers and Cubs had unforgettable adventures and made some lasting memories. Beavers tackled a nightline, which tested their listening skills. This was definitely a challenge! They had fun on the low ropes, scrambled up Jacobs ladder and navigated a cave maze. Cubs played laser tag, climbed a very wobbly pole, did a 25ft abseil and got rather muddy on an assault course. In the evening they sang campfire songs and toasted giant marshmallows on a campfire. The behaviour on this camp was exemplary and it was a pleasure to watch children challenge themselves, make new friends and most importantly, have fun.

It is a privilege and a pleasure to be part of an organisation that has so many dedicated volunteer Leaders and Young Leaders who give up so much of their time to provide varied, educational and challenging activities for our young members; so, a massive heartfelt thank you to all of you.

We are lucky enough to have convinced Nicola Walters (Beaver & Cub Leader)  to join our leadership team as a second Deputy Group Scout leader alongside Stephanie Hollis (Dore Explorer Unit Leader), huge thanks to them both for all their hard work.
